Tivat sits roughly in the middle of the Bay of Kotor, which is why so much of Montenegro is a short drive rather than a day of travel. Inland takes longer and climbs harder, but Cetinje and the Lovcen road are still comfortably a day trip.

What the roads ask of the car
The coast road is good tarmac and straightforward, if busy between June and September. The inland climbs are a different proposition: long sequences of switchbacks toward Lovcen and Cetinje where an automatic is noticeably less tiring, and 314 of the cars are automatic against 66 manual, so it is a filter rather than a gamble.
